Hej
I'm Ane Astrup, a Danish textile and quilt artist who lives and works in Berlin.

For ten years I have been designing, developing and sewing modern quilts based on an exploratory and improvisational approach. I am driven by curiosity and inspiration from my immediate surroundings, the city and nature. But really I can't help it and I'm at my best when I'm developing a new quilt.
I work without rulers or patterns, improvising and often letting shape and colour guide me to a result. Most of the time I use my sewing machine, but I also like to sew by hand when quilting.
Besides quilts, which take up a lot of my time, I sew bags, utensils and clothing.

I also explore machine embroidery and create my own designs using ink/Stitch, an open source machine embroidery design platform based on Inkscape.
And of course I do all kinds of handicrafts whenever possible. As long as I can play with colour, form and material.

Patchwork: Sewing together different pieces of fabric to make a larger piece.
Quilting: Stitching together, usually in three layers, the patchwork quilt with a batting and a backing.
